Doula Beginnings = Making life easier!
Hi there! I’m Carolyn Tranter, the Founder of Doula Beginnings. My journey into doula care began from a deeply personal experience – facing the birth of my fourth child alone. With the support of two amazing friends however, my experience was transformed into one that was unforgettable.
This life changing event led me to pursue childbirth educator training. During this time, I supported incredible women through labour and birth, solidifying my passion for supporting expectant mothers and their families during one of life’s most significant moments.
Discovering the doula profession and the profound impact doulas can have, I travelled to the United States to become certified as both a birth and postpartum doula under DONA International.
Over the past 35 plus years, I have had the privilege of supporting thousands of women as both an educator and a doula. Through these experiences, I identified a vital need for professional training opportunities and ongoing guidance for doulas in the Southern Hemisphere. This led me back to the United States to train as a DONA International approved trainer, ensuring that aspiring doulas receive comprehensive education and support to provide the highest quality care to mothers and their families.
My personal mission is centred on making a positive difference in the lives of others. As both an educator and certified birth and postpartum doula, I find great joy in supporting individuals and families, one person at a time.
While being deeply passionate about training doulas, it also allows me to extend the impact I personally have, dramatically. This is where my greatest joy lies – in knowing that through education and mentorship, I can contribute to making a positive difference in the lives of countless individuals and families.
And here’s something special: when you enroll in BD doula training, your first year of membership is included—so you can dive in and start building your community, skills, and business from day one, with no extra cost!
With Doula Beginnings, you’re never on your own. You’ll have guidance and practical tools every step of the way—helping you reach more families, grow your business, and truly thrive as a doula.
It is my pleasure as a professional colleague to provide this reference for Carolyn Tranter. I have worked with Carolyn in many capacities over 11 years. She has a long history of providing childbirth education to many expectant couples in urban and rural Manawatu. The classes and private sessions have been very well received. Carolyn has extensive experience as a doula working in all areas, antenatal, labour and birth, and postnatal. She has made herself available in a timely and approachable fashion assisting the mother and family in whatever capacity is required. New Zealand’s unique maternity system and social welfare system has on occasion recognised the benefit of providing maternity support to disadvantaged women by providing funding for Carolyn to be involved in their care, for example for women with little social support, disabilities and medical or physco social challenges. Carolyn has been very dedicated to assisting women with breastfeeding, often spending many hours with women experiencing difficulties. I have always been happy to recommend a session with Carolyn to assess and deal with concerns.
Jill P,
Carolyn’s support during and after the birth of our daughter was invaluable. Throughout the labour Carolyn was calm and encouraging, knowing exactly when I needed extra comfort, and also when to stand back. We will definitely be calling on her assistance when baby number two comes along!
Selina & Matt,
I found Carolyn to be caring and compassionate while also very efficient and knowledgeable in the area we needed. She has the ability to put people at ease even in the most intimate of situations.
Rachel & Kent,
